Charlie Crist still supports Obama, health care law
Crist Says 'it's been great' for Florida despite difficult rollout
Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist is sticking to his support of President Barack Obama's health overhaul, saying "it's been great" for the state despite a difficult rollout.
In an interview with CNN's "State of the Union" Crist said Obama has a "compassionate heart" and predicted the public would eventually embrace the health care law.
Crist was a Republican when he was governor but he is running as a Democrat against Gov. Rick Scott. He urged members of his new party to fully support Obama during the upcoming elections.
Crist acknowledged Florida's economy had improved under Scott's watch but said "it could be doing a lot better."
He said Florida had been hurt by the state's refusal to expand Medicaid eligibility and Scott's decision to reject federal money for high-speed rail.
