Former Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll wins national press award

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Over 200 black publishers from across the nation gather in Washington D.C. each March to host Black Press Week. Former Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll was awarded the 2015 Torch Award in politics.

The torch awards are given to individuals who have made significant contributions that positively impact the black community and for their acts of courage.

Carroll was honored for being the first African-American/Caribbean and first woman elected to the position of Lieutenant Governor for Florida.

In her work as lieutenant governor, Carroll fostered many initiatives in Florida that positively impacted black businesses, the health of at-risk low income infants, victims of domestic violence, economic development, space initiatives, the military and veterans. She led trade missions to South Africa and Trinidad West Indies, leading to $70 million dollars in new trade for small business owners, and served as Executive Director of Florida Department of Veteran Affairs.

Carroll is the author of Amazon best seller "When You Get There", an autobiography and inspiring testimony to the triumph of the human spirit.

The Torch Award is given annually to figures of national prominence who are high achievers impacting the advancement of communities and country.

The award recognizes individuals who willfully give of themselves to be servant leaders; it honors inspirational leaders doing extraordinary things under extenuating circumstances.
