Former sailor charged with possessing more than 100 child porn images

Christopher Driscoll held on $1 million bond

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A former Navy sailor has been charged with having more than 100 images of child pornography on his laptop.

Christopher Driscoll, 32, is being held at the Duval County Jail on $1 million bond.

The local and federal investigation began last fall.

The child pornography was discovered in September when a friend logged onto Driscoll’s computer and said he found hundreds of downloaded child porn videos, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report.

That friend, who asked not to be identified, told News4Jax that he found material that appeared to involve children as young as age 4. The friend said he logged on to Driscoll’s laptop to download a science-fiction series when he made the discovery and called law enforcement officials.

Driscoll used TOR software to secretly download the material, according to a complaint. The software gives computer users anonymity by preventing anyone from learning what sites you visit. It also prevents internet sites you visit from learning your physical address.

The friend told News4Jax that it appeared Driscoll got sloppy and didn’t cover his web browsing history. He also spotted two file folders on the computer that he believed contained child porn.

Detectives arrived to investigate, but they were unable to enter Driscoll’s home and seize the computer without his permission, so they left.

Months later, Driscoll was arrested Monday afternoon, when he turned himself in to police. He is now charged with 10 counts of possession of photographs/sexual performance by a child -- 10 or more images.

A background check revealed that Driscoll spent time serving in the Navy. Since the case remains under investigation, it’s possible Driscoll could face additional charges.
