JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Free booster seats will be available this weekend.  Safe Kids of Northeast Florida is giving them away to help keep older children safe in the car.

Parents often make the mistake of strapping children who are still too young or too small into regular seat belts.  Depending on their height many children should still be riding in a booster seat until they are 12 years old.

So children who are under 4 feet 9 inches tall and weigh between 80 and 100 pounds should be sitting in a booster seat in the back seat.  Call 904-202-4302 to make an appointment to pick up a free booster seat this Saturday.

They'll tell you where to go when you call.  You just need to bring with you the child who needs the seat so they can help you install it correctly.

Remember the child needs to be have outgrown their forward facing car seat in order to qualify for the free giveaway.  Click for general information about the kinds of car seats to use based on a child's age.
