Gas leak fixed near St. Augustine Airport

U.S. 1 was closed in the area for a short time

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A gas leak near the St. Augustine Airport temporarily shut down U.S. 1 Friday evening.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue reported the leak at 7:25 p.m.  It had multiple units on scene, including a Hazardous Materials response team.

The leak was located near the airport just south of Big Oak Road.

Firefighters secured the gas line and stopped the leak just before 8 p.m..

TECO gas technicians were also on scene doing necessary repairs.

Significant traffic delays were reported and SJCFR reopened U.S. 1 at 8 p.m.
