Gas station shooter gets 20 years in prison

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After a disagreement at a gas station led to one man being shot, the man responsible for that shooting will now serve 20 years in prison.

According to police, 23-year-old Robert Edward Smith was at a Norwood Avenue gas station in May 2013 when he got into an argument with a victim.

Smith then pulled out a gun and shot the victim before taking off.

The victim then waved down a Jacksonville Sheriff's officer who was driving by to get help.

Smith was sentenced Tuesday afternoon to a mandatory 20 years in prison for one count of aggravated assault with actual possession and discharge of a firearm. Smith also got one year plus one day in prison for shooting or throwing deadly missiles.
