ATLANTA, Ga. – On Friday and Saturday in Georgia, some clothing, most schools supplies and computers up to $1,000 will be exempt from sales tax.
With many school districts stating classes next week, this will benefit last-minute back-to-school shoppers.

The Georgia Department of Revenue considers most clothing items, even shoes, costing $100 or below tax exempt this weekend.
Among the items tax free:
- Bathing suits
- Blouses
- Dresses
- Diapers
- Hats
- Pants
- Shirts
- Socks
- Underwear
However, accessories are not included in this exemption. That means jewelry, purses, watches, umbrellas, cosmetics, etc. will still have sales tax applied.
Most school supplies $20 or less will also be tax exempt Friday and Saturday. This includes:
- Binders
- Book bags
- Calculators
- Crayons
- Folders
- Glue
- Index cards
- Notebooks
- Pencils, pens, highlighters
- Scissors
Computers are big-ticket items parents back for students. Computers and certain software and computer components for noncommercial or personal use costing $1000 or less will be free to sales tax on Friday and Sunday.

- Tablets
- Monitors
- Docking stations
- Hard Drives
- Printers
- Scanners
Certain items will still have sales tax added. That includes regular batteries, computer bags, digital cameras, projectors, surge protectors, TVs, etc.
