Investigators have determined the fire that destroyed the Relax Inn in Charlton County on Thursday evening was an arson, according to Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens.
Fire investigators say the fire started about 7 p.m. in an empty room of the building on 3436 2nd Street that was used for storage.
First-degree arson is a felony with a penalty of one to 20 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $50,000.
Anyone with information about this fire is asked to call the state's arson hotline at 800-282-5804.
Rewards of up to $10,000 are given for information leading to the arrest and conviction of an arsonist. Calls are taken 24 hours a day; callers can choose to remain anonymous.
