BRUNSWICK, Ga. -

A coastal Georgia counting is awaiting bids by companies seeking to build a new 610-bed jail while being asked to stick to a tight budget.

Glynn County officials want to spend no more than $27.4 million for the new county jail, and their chief architect crafted his design around that figure.

The Florida Times-Union reports architect Jim Ingram says he'll "be nervous" when bids are due July 17.

Past county officials have said the new Glynn County jail could cost as much as $40 million. But Ingram says he's used his past experience in the building of 200 detention centers to help keep costs for the new jail as low as possible.
