SPRINGFIELD, Ga. -

Authorities in southeast Georgia say a man led sheriff's deputies on a high-speed chase during which the suspect threw a gun and marijuana out of his car.

WTOC-TV reports deputies arrested and jailed 18-year-old Brandon Hawkins of Springfield after boxing in his vehicle near a residential subdivision.

Authorities say the handgun and drugs tossed from the fleeing vehicle were recovered, and investigators found a ski mask inside Hawkins' car.

Hawkins is charged with possessing a firearm during commission of a crime, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, felony fleeing and possession of marijuana among other charges related to the Saturday police chase.

It was not immediately known if Hawkins had hired an attorney.
