A Georgia congressman helped officials break ground on a new Veterans Affairs primary care clinic in Hinesville.

WTOC-TV reported Republican U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston helped break ground Monday on the nearly 24,000 square foot clinic which is slated to serve up to 7,200 veterans in the area.

Kingston represents Georgia's First Congressional District, which covers 25 counties in south Georgia.

The clinic plans to offer primary care, mental health, specialty care, optometry services and more to veterans in the Hinesville area — which is about 40 miles south of Savannah.

The clinic is scheduled to open in the spring of 2014.
