Thanksgiving Day crash leave two dead, two injured

BACON COUNTY, Ga.

A car crash involving two vehicles resulted in two fatalities in Alma on Thanksgiving Day.

Kristen Nicole Lewis, 28, and her 5-year-old son, Andrew Mason Lewis, both died after of injuries they sustained during the accident.

The crash occurred at the intersection of West 4th Street Extension and Friendship Church Road in northwest Bacon County.

According to Georgia State Police preliminary reports and witness statements, Justin Taylor, 26, was driving a 2013 Dodge Challenger northbound on West 4th Street Extension when Jerid Todd Taft, 27, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Impala, failed to stop at the stop sign on Friendship Road and traveled into Taylor’s path. Both Lewis and her son were passengers in a vehicle driven by Taft.

Taylor’s Challenger struck the passenger side of Taft’s Impala causing the Impala to rotate and violently overturn while ejecting all three unrestrained passengers.

Kristen Lewis was taken via AirEvac to Wayne Memorial in Jesup, where due to complications she was pronounced dead. Andrew Lewis was taken to Bacon Memorial along with the two drivers, but he also did not survive his injuries.

Taft suffered sustained substantial upper body and facial injuries. Taylor also sustained upper body injuries.

Charges are expected pending the results of the crash investigation.
