Brunswick Fire Department earns top fire protection rating

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The city of Brunswick learned Tuesday it is one of only 97 communities nationwide to earn a Class 1 rating from the Insurance Services Office. A Class 1 rating is the highest rating that can be received, and an improvement over the Class 2 it has maintained for over 10 years.

On September 15 the City of Brunswick Fire Department received its official audit results from the Insurance Services Office (ISO). The ISO audit was conducted on March 2, 2015, by Risk Management Analyst Ralph Roberts.

The residents and business owners within Brunswick's city limits will enjoy the benefits of an improved ISO Personal Property Classification as of December 1, 2015. The lower designation will only affect the Terry Creek area since it is the only populated area inside the city limits that is not within 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant.

ISO's rating scale goes from a 10 (recognized as no fire protection at all) to a 1 (exceptional fire protection). The Brunswick Fire Department ranks in the top 0.19% of departments in the entire United States. Only 97 of the departments in the United States have a Class 1 Fire Protection Rating. While ISO determines a community's fire suppression capabilities, both the Glynn Brunswick 911 Center and the Brunswick Glynn Joint Water Sewer Commission play a role in determining the community's overall classification.
