CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. -

The Georgia Department of Public Health has confirmed a flu-related death of a woman in Chatham County, located in the Coastal Health District.

According to the department, this is the first confirmed flu-related death in Chatham County to date, although there have been 31 flu-related deaths across the state of Georgia.

Health officials say although it's close to the peak of flu season, it's still not too late to get vaccinated.

Doctors say getting the flu vaccine is the best way to protect against contracting influenza.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says anyone six months and older should be vaccinated. The CDC also mentions everyday ways to avoid the flu.
