SAVANNAH, Ga. -

Authorities say the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is probing a fatal police-involved shooting Saturday morning in coastal Georgia.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan police spokesman Julian Miller says the department's chief, Willie Lovett, requested the state investigation after 56-year-old Samuel Frazier was shot by an officer.

Police spokesman Julian Miller told WSAV-TV the shooting took place at a Frizier's house behind Crossroad Animal Hospital on Amy Street. Police, who believe Frizier was involved in a dispute at a nearby business, surrounded the house just before the shooting.

Investigators said Frazier was armed when the officer shot him.

Miller says Lovett requested the GBI investigation to ensure transparency.
