BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Jury selection is set for next week for a trial next month of the man accused of killing his father and seven others in a Glynn County mobile home on Aug. 29, 2009.
Guy Heinze Jr. is charged with eight counts of murder and one count of aggravated assault. The victims included Guy Heinze Sr., 45; Russell D. Toler Sr., 44, and his four children: Chrissy Toler, 22; Russell D. Toler Jr., 20; Michael Toler, 19; and Michelle Toler, 15; Brenda Gail Falagan, 49; and Joseph L. West, 30.
After the killings, police say Heinze called 911 and sobbed, "My whole family is dead."
At a final pretrial hearing Monday, Heinze's attorney again told Superior Court Judge Stephen Scarlett he did not want to move the trial out of Glynn County.
Surviving family members sat in the first row, facing their relative accused in the massacre.
While jury selection will begin next Monday, the trial is expected to be held the week of Oct. 15.
If convicted, Heinze, 25, faces the death penalty.
