Human skull found in St. Simons Island surf

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – A portion of a human skull was found Monday morning on the beach at St. Simons Island.

A beachgoer walking his dog found the remains, which consist of the upper portion of the skull with some teeth, about 7:20 a.m. Monday. There's no dental work, leading investigators to believe the skull is that of a young person.

A teenage boy disappeared in the water in that area in July 2013. His body was never found.

Glynn County Police are considering the possibility that the skull might belong to that boy.

The skull was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Crime Lab for possible identification and further analysis.
