Police quickly arrest Brunswick bank robber

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Less than 90 minutes after the South Coast Bank on Newcastle Street was robbed on Tuesday, police found their suspect driving a stolen pickup truck.

Brunswick police called to a reported armed robbery were told a white man entered the bank about 4:40 p.m. and handed a note to one of the tellers demanding money. The suspect received an undisclosed amount of cash and left the bank.

Police said the suspect did not show a weapons.

The suspect description was distributed and Brunswick and Glynn County police set up a perimeter began searching for the robber.  About 6 p.m., a person matching the description was found at the Citgo station on Highway 341 and taken into custody.

Police said Gary Joyner, 52, was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck reported stolen from Fernandina Beach. Officers also said he had crack cocaine in his possession.

Police some of the money from the robbery was recovered.

Joyner was arrested on charges of bank robbery by intimidation and theft by receiving stolen property. The investigation continues with the possibility of additional charges pending.

Joyner is considered homeless but has family in the Brunswick area.
