They said the 36-year-old resident reported hearing the doorbell ring but didn't see anyone. Shortly thereafter, he heard the doorbell again and answered the door but had his handgun with him for his safety, police said.

When the resident stepped onto the porch, he was approached by a man who lunged at him, police said. The suspect, identified as Anthony Devine, was wearing a mask, police said.

They said the resident fired numerous times at Devine with a .45 caliber handgun, then ran into his house and called 911.
