Tennessee man wanted in slaying arrested in Camden County

Deputies: 52-year-old man shot with stun gun during arrest

WOODBINE, Ga. – A man wanted in connection with a killing in Tennessee was arrested following a traffic stop on Interstate 95, according to the Camden County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said a white Ford Focus driven by 52-year-old Ronald Perry Ellis, of Memphis, Tennessee, crossed over at 1:40 p.m. Thursday from Nassau County, Florida, into Camden County, Georgia.

Before Ellis crossed into Georgia, he was spotted on I-95 by Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Rudy Waters, who ran Ellis' tag and contacted local authorities for back-up.

Authorities pursued the vehicle to mile marker six. Stop sticks were deployed to deflate the vehicle tires.

Camden County took over when jurisdiction changed hands, but FHP's Waters assisted Camden County deputies with the roadblock.

Deputies said Ellis was shot with a stun gun when he failed to comply with verbal instructions.

Ellis is a suspect in the killing of a woman Monday afternoon at a Target store in Memphis, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Ellis, who was the only person in the Focus, was taken to Camden Medical Center for clearance. Deputies said he will be booked into the Camden County Jail.
