LAKE CITY, Fla. - A Jacksonville man is facing several charges after deputies say he went on a crime spree beginning in North Carolina and ending in Lake City.

Officers with the Lake City Police Department said it started in Durham when Steve Alexander Roberts, 43, took his roommate's Toyota 4-Runner SUV without permission.

They said he stopped in Jacksonville and stole a license plate then drove to the Cabot Lodge in Lake City and burglarized several vehicles, then for unknown reasons, abandoned the stolen 4-Runner with a motorcycle trailer, loaded up stolen luggage into a Pontiac and drove around the corner to the Fairfield Inn & Suites.

There, he burglarized several more vehicles and eventually crashed into another vehicle and then fell asleep inside the Pontiac.

Prior to his arrest, officers said several prescription pills and over 8 oz. of marijuana were found on his person.

According to the Lake City police department, Roberts is facing 19 charges including 3 counts of auto burglary and criminal mischief.

He's being held at the Columbia County jail without bond.
