Disaster recovery center opens in Brunswick

Center offers one-stop shop for those recovering from Hurricane Matthew

GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency has granted Glynn County a declaration of Individual Assistance.

With this declaration comes assistance to small businesses as well.

Individual Assistance aids homeowners and renters without insurance and opens programs to insured owners or renters.

FEMA has set up a Disaster Recovery Center at Howard Coffin Park at 1402 Sonny Miller Way in Brunswick for both Glynn and McIntosh Counties.

The DRC will be open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and closed on Sundays.

Representatives from the FEMA, U.S. Small Business Administration, volunteer groups and other agencies will be available to answer questions about disaster assistance and low-interest disaster loans for homeowners, renters and businesses.

A representative from the Division of Family and Children Services will be available at the DRC to provide assistance with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

In addition, you can visit www.disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362); (TTY 1-800-462-7585) to register for disaster assistance or get information about your application. FEMA also has a free app available in the Apple App Store or Google Play that provides disaster resources and allows you to submit disaster photos.

To apply for FEMA aid at either the DRC or by phone, you will need:

  • Social Security number
  • Address of the damaged home or apartment
  • Description of the damage
  • Information about insurance coverage
  • Telephone number
  • Mailing address
  • Bank account and routing numbers for direct deposit of funds
