Glynn County searching for new school superintendent

Glynn County Superintendent of Schools Howard Mann is to retire in June.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Glynn County Schools System has begun a search for a new superintendent after superintendent Howard Mann announced earlier this year that he plans retire in June.

The Georgia School Boards Association has solicited applicants for the position under contract with the Glynn County Board of Education. Board chairman Mike Hulsey said Friday that the applications will be posted until April 16.

Mann, a Brunswick native and graduate of Glynn Academy, has been in education for 40 years and served as superintendent since 2008. Prior to that, Mann was transportation director and assistant principal of a Glynn County middle school.

“It has been an honor to serve this community that has so steadfastly supported education at all levels, from prekindergarten through post-secondary,” Mann said in a statement released in January.

Hulsey says Mann's reason for retiring is to spend more time with family.

Finalists for superintendent will be narrowed down and, under Georgia law, be allowed a two-week waiting period before they are further vetted. There will also be an opportunity for the public to meet and greet the finalists before the final selection takes place.
