Police recover retired police captain's body from water

Walter "Ray" Starling reported missing after not return from fishing trip

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The body of a man reported missing Friday night after not returning from a fishing trip was found by police Saturday morning, the Brunswick Police Department said.

Walter "Ray" Starling, 67, of Brunswick, Georgia, was reported missing at 9:37 p.m. after he didn’t come home from a fishing trip off Homer Wilson Way.

The Brunswick Police Department, Glynn County Sheriff’s Office, Glynn County Emergency Management Services and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources searched the area overnight, eventually finding Starling at 9:30 a.m., police said.

Starling was a retired police captain with the Glynn County Police Department. 

Police are investigating as to how the man ended up in the water.
