Police: Man, 53, shot, killed in front yard

Investigators seeking information in killing

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – A 53-year-old Brunswick man was found dead of a gunshot wound in the front yard of a home on Friday morning, and police are trying to figure out who killed him.

Police were called to the home in the 1700 block of Ellis Street about 7:45 a.m., where they found Calvin Powell lying motionless in the yard. He had what appeared to be a single gunshot wound, police said.

Powell died at the scene, and his body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations crime lab in Savannah for an autopsy.

Police said they would release more information as it becomes available.
