Health officials say although it's close to the peak of flu season, it's still not too late to get vaccinated.

Doctors say getting the flu vaccine is the best way to protect against contracting influenza.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says anyone six months and older should be vaccinated. The CDC also mentions everyday ways to avoid the flu.

  • Cover your cough (try to cough into the crook of your elbow, not your hand)
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water. If soap and water is not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Clean common surfaces like countertops and desks.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth because germs spread this way.
