Coalson was a retired state trooper, who flew helicopters with the state patrol. Knight was a father of two young children. Kerfoot was a second grade teacher at Lake Park Elementary in Albany. All of them died in the crash.

The aircraft was on fire after it crashed shortly after taking off at about 2:45 p.m.

Banks says the crash occurred near the main runway at the airport Saturday afternoon. She did not know the plane's intended destination.

Arlene Salac of the Federal Aviation Administration said in an emailed statement that the Lancair 4 aircraft crashed at 2:35 p.m. The FAA is currently investigating and the National Transportation Safety Board would determine the probable cause.
