Girl, 2, dies after falling from minivan near Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – Deputies say a 2-year-old girl fell from a moving minivan and died near Tampa.

The girl's 69-year-old great-grandmother had just picked up the girl's older brothers from a bus stop in Plant City on Wednesday when the incident happened.

Hillsborough County sheriff's spokesman Larry McKinnon says Alice J. Barber was driving a Kia Sedona on a private dirt driveway of her home. He says Izabella and her 9-year-old brother were sitting on the floor of the vehicle with the passenger door open while the grandmother drove down the driveway.

The girl fell from the van and under the rear wheel just before they reached the house. She was taken to a Tampa hospital where she died.

McKinnon says there are no charges, but an investigation continues.
