JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Girls Rock Jacksonville isn't your everyday summer camp. Girls Rock Camp is a week-long program serving girls ages 9-16 in the Jacksonville area where campers learn an instrument, form a band and write a song which they perform at a showcase at the Florida Theatre.

"We value the power of music as a means to create personal and social change, and the end product is just amazing. To see these girls perform at the Florida Theatre really is a treat" said organizer Alicia Canessa.

In addition to the Florida Theatre performance, the girls will participate in workshops centered around empowerment and creativity such as songwriting, image & identity, self defense, zine-making and more.

"We value diversity and encourages girls from all backgrounds to apply for camp. Financial aid is available and no music experience is necessary. And we don't only focus on rock and roll, the girls get involved in all genres of music including jazz, country and hip hop," said organizer Cherri Czajkowski.

The public is invited to attend the campers final showcase on Saturday, August 4th at the Florida Theatre.  The camp was sold out this year but organizers say it's not to early to get your child's name on the list for next year.

"We really want people to come on out and see all the creativity we have in our young girls and women right here in Jacksonville. You will be surprised at all of the local talent we have right here at home," said Czajkowski.
