Grandmother, 2 kids pulled from car in pond

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman and her two young grandchildren are unhurt after their car crashed into a pond Sunday afternoon, police said.

Neighbors and officers quickly jumped into action to help. One of the neighbors was an off-duty officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police were called to the neighborhood off Old St. Augustine and Loretto Road.

Police say the woman, later identified as 60-year-old Siham Snober, was trying to make a U-turn when her car got stuck in the grass. They say she hit the gas to try to get out, but the car took off and hit a fence, going straight into the water.

One man, who asked not to be identified, saw the whole thing and called 911.

"We heard, like people screaming, and then we heard a loud bang," the neighbor said. "I ran to my upstairs room and looked in the back and there was a car in the ditch pond, upside down and floating."

Officers say neighbors had already pulled the children -- ages 2 and 5 -- out, but Snober was still in the driver's seat when they arrived. Two police officers jumped in.

"They were able to open the driver's side door, cut the seatbelt off the driver and safely remove her out of the car," said Lt. Larry Kitchen with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. "They safely moved her to other individuals on the grassy area."

CPR was performed on Snober. Police say she is now in good condition. Neighbors are grateful it wasn't worse.

Police also said Snober is not from the area. They said she was visiting her family.
