JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Rayne Perrywinkle, whose 8-year-old daughter was killed in June and who is fighting for custody of her two other daughters, was taken for mental evaluation after police on Sunday.

The Florida Department of Children and Families removed Perrywinkle's 4- and 5-year-old daughters from her care on July 10, about three weeks after Cherish was kidnapped, raped and killed.

Rayne Perrywinkle's former boyfriend and father of the two girls, Aharon Pearson, is asking for custody.

Pearson called police Sunday afternoon and told officers that Rayne Perrywinkle wanted to kill herself.

"Ever since Cherish was killed, she has lost her desire to live and has been acting out in violent rages," officers wrote in the report after talking with Pearson. He told police that she was throwing plates and cups against the wall, and he got hit by glass as it broke.

The officer wrote that Rayne Perrywinkle told him: "She does not know what to do anymore, and she was not sure why she was breaking all the glass."

The officer determined she was suicidal and committed her to the Mental Health Center of Jacksonville under the Baker Act.

Perrywinkle said last week week she feels her children were wrongly taken away and were never in danger.

"I'm doing everything that I possibly can to work with the judge and work with DCF or (Mental Health Resource Center) to get my children back," she said.

The next family court hearing in the case was scheduled for Tuesday.

Judge David Gooding, who is presiding over the custody case, said the custody fight could last months. He said he wants to make sure he makes the right choice.
