Grocery delivery service expands to Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – You're probably thinking that personal delivery services are only for people with a lot of money, but there's a new service in Jacksonville that will cover your errands  for less than the cost of a movie ticket.

We had the chance to tag along for one the first Lazy Delivery orders in Jacksonville since they expanded just a few weeks ago. Brandon, the driver, picked up bread, orange juice, two containers of cream cheese, a dozen eggs and few more things. A quick drive to an apartments complex right around the corner, up one flight of stairs and he's at his destination. It's Pralitha Kanthamneni home.

Kanthamneni told us, "This is the first time I've ordered and I'm satisifed." She found the service online when her friend said she had used them in Gainesville.
She explained why she really needed their help today. "I am pregnant and I can't drive and my husband is not here so I need my groceries and I felt like Lazy Delivery is the best choice for me."

Marc Charbel came up with the idea when he was at University of Florida. He didn't have a car and realized there were a lot of others like him, who have trouble getting to the grocery store. "Our average client is busy parents, students, elderly folks," Charbel said. "Anyone wanting anything to their doorstep."

To use Lazy Delivery, you fill out an order online. Next, schedule a delivery time and then name the store or stores that you want. Once you register for the service, there's an option that allows you to track the driver so you will know exactly when your order is going arrive. Charbel said, "We can send them live feed tracking to their phone from who is assigned to them so they can see the current time at the store and when they are heading to their apartment or house.

Planned deliveries cost $10. Instant deliveries, where they deliver in two hours or less, they will run you $15. Gratuity is not included. They call their drivers 'liaisons.' Each one is given a background check and they use their own vehicle. Lazy Delivery has about 20 to 30 drivers in each city. So far they're in Gainesville, Orlando and now Jacksonville

Charbel said, "In the future we hope to expand to different cities and make this wonderful service available to more people and anyone who is looking to save some money and actually time." He also told us they've started a foundation. After meeting several customers who can't get to the store because of handicaps or age, they're raising money to waive their delivery fees.
