Group searching for shooter in deaths of 2 women

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After the killings of two women on the Northside earlier this month, a local anti-crime group is taking to the streets to help police find a suspect.

Family members said 23-year-old Sharnice Wilson,(pictured to the right), and her 2-year old daughter, Ta-niyah Brooks, were spending the night with her godmother, Marquisha Phillips, (pictured to the left), when shots were fired into their home on Chestnut Drive. Both Wilson and Phillips were killed. The little girl was injured and is now in the hospital.

Though police have not identified who pulled the trigger, the group MAD DADS believes someone knows who's responsible.

The group took to the streets Thursday going door to door in the neighborhoods around the home where the two women were shot and killed, and where the child was grazed with a bullet that sailed into their home.

"But children? When you start shooting into a house then you have no regard for life at all, period. So we need to remove you from the streets," Donald Foy, with MAD DADS, said.

Residents said that the innocence of these victims has set off community outrage, and that's why family and friends of the women were out. Friends like Janice Mitchell who was close to Wilson.

"I'm trying to get justice. Find out who killed her. We just want to know what happened and why," Mitchell said.

Friends and family of Amber Bass are also helping with the canvas. Next month will be two years since Bass was killed, and her family and friends continue their hunt for her killer.

"I care about the victims' families. I know how they feel. So I've decided that, you know, I want to be there for them. Mad Dads was there for us, I just want to be a part of that to help other victims," Susan Singer, a friend of Bass' said.

Anyone with information about the shooting on Chestnut Drive or any unsolved killings are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
