Gunman sought; school lockdown lifted

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – A lockdown was lifted at St. Paul's Catholic Church, which is also a school, after Jacksonville Beach police said a gunman was on the loose Tuesday morning.

Police were called to the area of First Street and Beach Boulevard about 9:15 a.m. after they said a man robbed someone near Sneakers Sports Grille.

The church is located at 435 First Ave., several blocks away. The school was locked down for about 50 minutes. No other schools were locked down.

The kitchen manager at Sneakers said he was in the back parking lot on his way to work when a man came up to him, pointed a gun at him and said, "Give it up."

He said he gave him his wallet with cash inside. The man said he was able to cancel his credit cards soon after.

The man said the robber started running west toward the school, which is why it was placed on lockdown.

Police were looking for someone in a white T-shirt, khaki pants and a Freddy Krueger mask. They said they hadn't arrested anyone yet, but they didn't feel the school was in any threat anymore.

Lifeguards were also notified to be on lookout for the robber.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Jacksonville Beach Police Department at 904-270-1661 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
