Hastings man gets 15 years in meth case

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 36-year-old Hastings man was sentenced Monday to 15 years and 10 months in federal prison for conspiracy to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine.

A jury found Frank Higginbotham guilty of the offenses on Feb. 21.

Judge Marcia Morales Howard gave the sentence and also ordered Higginbotham to serve eight years of supervised release after his prison sentence is served.

According to court documents, Higginbotham manufactured and sold methamphetamine at various locations in St. Johns County.

Higginbotham was given medications containing pseudoephedrine, an ingredient in many cold and allergy medicines, in exchange for the methamphetamine. Pseudoephedrine is the main ingredient for making methamphetamine.

During an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Higginbotham sold methamphetamine to an undercover agent on Feb. 13.

Higginbotham had previously served time for trafficking methamphetamine.
