Health care nurse pleads guilty in 2015 child neglect case

Child was burned by hot bath water

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 36-year-old home health care nurse, Edmund Omodu, was arrested on a charge of child neglect in July 2015 after a special-needs child in his care got second-degree burns while sitting in a tub of hot water.

Police determined there was a known problem with the water heater and water pressure in the bathroom. There were blisters on about 17 percent of the child's body after being exposed to the hot water, according to a police report.

The mother said Omodu had been the child's nurse for about two years.

The child’s mother said she had warned Omodu about the water temperature issue, but it wasn’t fixed, police said. Omodu pleaded guilty in March and was sentenced to three years probation.
