A brutal murder two years ago at a downtown night spot ... Now, the confessed killer takes the stand. 3 Matthew Hinson .. apologizing for slashing the throat of a visiting Chicago Bears fan at Jacksonville Landing in October of 2012. According to police, Hinson murdered Christopher Pettry at Fionn McCool's pub in a fit of rage because Pettry was talking to Hinson's wife. Both HIS family and Pettry's family are in court ... as a judge considers Hinson's punishment at a sentencing hearing. Channel 4's Vic Micolucci joins us live from the courthouse with an update. Vic. 3 3 3 00-0720-2542-471'12-1'19PKG: Life will never be the same for Christopher Pettry's family... the father of 3 and husband was in Jacksonville to watch the Chicago Bears play the Jaguars. His life ended here at Fionn MacCool's inside the landing...when investigators say Matthew Hinson, who worked at the Hyatt Hotel next door, slashed his throat with a pocket knife... Hinson, who's now 29, is a veteran who was stationed aboard a Navy submarine...his defense argued that his time undersea caused him to develop PTSD and abuse alcohol. He said in court he was drunk when he stabbed Pettry and doesn't remember much...Hinson - "Obviously I was very inebriated and made a terrible judgement call." "It was not my intention to kill this man." Hinson said he took full responsibility for what he did...but asked the judge and the family of the man he killed for mercy."I'm so very sorry." Pettry's loved ones... who came down from Illinois...sat feet away the whole time...still so devastated by such a gruesome crime ...hoping for justice ... Vic ... POLICE said at the time.. Hinson pulled the knife because Pettry talked to his wife... what did HINSON say??
