Historic Bostwick Building to be auctioned July 21

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Circuit Court judge on Tuesday ordered the iconic Bostwick Building to be sold at auction, according to the mayor's office. The judge also granted attorneys' fees and costs for the city totaling $78,774 -- which will be the minimum bid.

Most people know the historic structure at the corner of Bay and Ocean streets as the Jaguars building.

The current owners -- members of the Bostwick family under the Guaranty Trust Investments Inc. title -- had been accruing fines at a rate of $100 per day since 2012 because the structure failed to meet city code.

The city foreclosed on the lien it had against the building at 101 East Bay Street on Nov. 27, one day after City Council designated it a historic landmark and denied the owners' request to tear down the structure.
