JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 34-year-old man who was charged in November 2014 for a fatal hit-and-run pleaded no contest. 

Santos Herrera-Montiel was sentenced on Tuesday to serve 20 years in prison for hitting and killing 37-year-old Michael Moon, who was riding on his scooter when Herrera-Montiel struck him.

According to court documents, Herrera-Montiel left the scene of the crash after hitting Moon. However, he turned himself into the Florida Highway Patrol the day after the accident.

Herrera-Montiel is being charged for leaving the scene of an accident, causing death and driving without a driver's license causing death or serious bodily injury.
