Home invasion leaves Middleburg residents on edge

Deputies search for 2 home invasion suspects

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. – The Clay County Sheriff is asking for the public's help to find two armed burglars who broke into a Middleburg home early Thursday morning.

The burglary happened around 7 a.m. Two armed men broke into a family's home, according to police.

The victim of the crime did not want to be identified, but agreed to do an interview with Channel 4.

"We heard a loud commotion and my son came out here to see what was wrong, and he came out here and saw these two gunmen enter the house," said the victim.

Sheriff's deputies said the two men, dressed in camouflage, kicked in the front door, then after seeing someone was home the pair took off running. No one has been found and tonight neighbors are on edge.

"I felt so very safe in this neighborhood, till this morning, it kind of freaked me out," said the victim.

Channel 4 spoke with a neighbor who was home at the time of the incident, but didn't hear or see anything. He can't understand why crooks would target a house on the end of his cul-de-sac. Deputies didn't give a motive, and this homeowner can't figure it out either.

"I don't know if they thought nobody was home, I just don't know," said the neighbor. "Blows me away. I love this neighborhood, I'm like crap! What's this, you know?"

Deputies are still looking for the two men. They say the men are probably armed. If anyone has any information on this case they should contact the Clay County Sheriff's Office at 904-264-6512.
