Neighbor tried to save man from deadly house fire

Fire put out Tuesday night reignited Wednesday morning

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The body of a man was found Tuesday night in a burned-out home on Myra Street after firefighters put out the blaze, which reignited Wednesday morning.

News4Jax was at the home Wednesday preparing a follow-up report when the crew saw flames in the home and called 911. The second fire was extinguished quickly.

A neighbor said she saw the flames and tried to save the man inside the home. His name has not been released by police.

"We had to go over there to knock on their doors. We tried to get everybody out, but I guess everybody didn't make it out," the neighbor said. "It was a big flame. That whole house, you heard booms. It was horrible."

The State Fire Marshal's Office is now investigating the cause of the fire, but police do not suspect foul play.

They said the man, who was in his 50s, lived at the home alone.

The State Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the man's cause of death.
