I-295 reopens after motorist killed overnight

Driver stepped out of a car, into path of tractor-trailer

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – All lanes of Interstate 295 reopened early Thursday morning, hours after a motorist was killed when he got out a car and stepped into the path of a tractor-trailer, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident happened about 1 a.m. in the northbound lanes near the intersection with St. Johns Bluff Road.

Lanes between Beach Boulevard and St. Johns Bluff were closed until after 5 a.m. 

The identity of the man who died was pending notification of immediate family. According to the FHP, the big rig was driven by Allison Floyd, 57, of Clover, South Carolina.

The preliminary accident report said charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
