Ideas disscused for EdSpark project

Creators sought for One Spark festival

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Local teachers and students hope it will take just one idea to ignite a new wave of education in Jacksonville.

The Schultz Center for Teaching and Leadership held a meeting Tuesday night to discuss ideas about the EdSpark initiative, which will be part of this year's One Spark crowd-funding festival.

"This is an opportunity for people who are interested in learning to collaborate together. And the five areas that One Spark focuses on can all be education related," said Schultz Center president and CEO, Deborah Gianoulis.

"You know it's art, music, science, technology, innovation and so all of these ideas can be under this umbrella but all can be connected to learning."

The Schultz Center has embraced the notion of innovation through collaboration.

Leaders say after attending the 2013 festival, they saw the opportunity and potential to build upon its concept to move education forward, for both educators and students.

The 2014 One Spark festival takes place April 9-13 in Downtown. It will be based on the second floor of the Wells Fargo building.

Registration to become a participant is open until January 31.
