Increased security at local fireworks shows

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Law enforcement agencies across the country are putting in extra hours to ramp up security ahead of Independence Day weekend.

Officers have an increased presence at several local firework events including one happening Friday in St. John's County.

The Department of Homeland Security, FBI and the National Counter-terrorism Center issued a bulletin warning of the possibility of a terror strike while saying there's no specific or credible threat.

News4Jax saw increased security at the fireworks show hosted by World Golf Village. Police urge everyone to look around you.

Friday night as Brandi Waldrep and her family enjoyed the show at World Golf Village, they noticed people in uniform enjoying the show as well.

"They're everywhere, we just went for a walk and there's one on every corner or a few on every corner," Brandi Waldrep said.

"Anything could happen. You just want that extra security so you feel OK," Jordan Wels said.

Recently the FBI sent out a massive bulletin to 18,000 officers warning them to remain vigilant because of concern over Fourth of July terror threats.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office held an intelligence meeting just hours before Friday night's event. It said there have been no specific threats but have been in contact with intelligence partners from the FBI

The Sheriff's Office also increased security to two dozen officers.
