Isis removed from list of hurricane names

Deemed inappropriate because of link to militant group

GENEVA – The U.N.'s World Meteorological Organization has removed 'Isis' from the official list of names for future hurricanes, according to an article by Reuters.

'Isis,' the name of an ancient Egyptian goddess, was on the list of hurricanes in the North Pacific in 2016, WMO spokeswoman Clare Nullis said.

But because the name is also used to describe the Islamic State militant group, the name has been removed. The list rotates every six years, and experts from 27 member states can vote to remove names that are considered inappropriate.
