Jacksonville Beach murder suspect ruled competent for prosecution

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – A murder suspect accused of killing a Jacksonville Beach firefighter has now been ruled competent for prosecution and returned to the Duval County jail.

Charles Pearce is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Mike McCue in February 2011. He's also charged with attempted murder of his father-in-law.

Pearce had been remanded to the custody of a Department of Children and Famlies-run psychiatric care facility for treatment after being found not competent last year.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Monday.
