Jacksonville to host Jr. Olympic track, field meet
Meet to be held at University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium in 2015
The city will play host to some of the best track and field athletes from high schools around the country.
The city of Jacksonville won the bid Saturday to host the National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships from July 27 to Aug. 2, 2015.
The event will take place at Hodges Stadium at the University of North Florida.
Representing an estimated 20,000 hotel room nights over six days, Visit Jacksonville officials say the event will have an economic impact of about $14 million in the local economy, and provide a shot in the arm to the area’s hotels, especially non-beach hotels during one of their slowest times of the year.
“We’re excited that the organization chose Jacksonville for their 2015 event and look forward to showing off Northeast Florida when they arrive,” said Visit Jacksonville President and CEO Paul Astleford. “We are also fortunate to have a state-of-the-art track facility at the University of North Florida, which gave us a leg up in the competition to bring the event here.”
