Jaguars surprise boy who lost belongings in fire

Jags visit classroom of 8-year-old who lost home in Super Bowl Sunday fire

FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. – One little boy who lost some prized possessions in a house fire on Super Bowl Sunday had them replaced Wednesday by some familiar faces.

Jack Wilkening, 8, and his family lost their home in a fire, along with much of what was inside, including Jack's signed Jaguars football and his favorite Florida State Seminoles hat.

Wednesday morning Jaguars mascot Jaxson de Ville and linebacker Telvin Smith, an FSU alum, stopped by the boy's school to give him some new Jaguars swag.

"It's a real humbling experience," Smith said.

Humbling for Smith, shocking for 8-year-old Jack and his 7-year-old sister, Kate, who also got a signed hat and other Jaguars gear. The two kids got the gifts in front of Jack's classmates, who each also received autographs and other small gifts.

"I was a little nervous," Smith said. "I've never been in that situation and never had a whole house get taken away from me or anything like that. You kind of don't know what to say. You want to be respectful and console them a little bit; just let them know that you were there for them and you were praying for them."

Smith said just talking to Jack was eye-opening. He said that the boy kept thanking him for taking the time to bring him these things -- something Smith said was an honor.

"That right there just takes it to another level," Smith said. "It takes you out of and let's you see the bigger picture of things. That you really inspire people every day to want to root for you and want to chase their own dreams."

After they got their gifts, Jack and his sister visited some members of the Clay County Fire Department and got to have a little fun with Jaxson before he left, joining with Jack's classmates to chant, "We are Jaguars!"

Jack's mom said without a doubt, this will be the highlight of her kids' year.
