CHICAGO - Why does jail continue to get such a bad rap? It sounds like a heck of a party.
Inmates at the Cook County Jail in Chicago are now allowed to order pizza directly to their cells, WKMG reports.
The Chicago Tribune reports the pizza is cooked by fellow inmates in the jail's pizza oven, with proceeds from sales going to the "Recipe for Change" program which teaches inmates skills they can use when they're released.
A plain margherita pizza runs $5, while inmates pay $7 for a pie with mushrooms, salami, olives and eggs.
According to the report, the original plan was to have inmates sell pizzas to the jail staff; but as expected, the guards wanted "nothing to do with anything made by detainees."
Since the pizza deliveries started on April 20, 208 pies have been sold.
