OCCUPATION:  Small business owner

EDUCATION: B.A. in Biology, Marville College, Maryville, Tenn.

POLITICAL EXPERIENCE:  "I have never held a local office but I am involved with local boards, organizations and clubs that are associated with the local government. I understand the commitment and the duties of being a board member."

WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE TOP THREE ISSUES IN THIS RACE?

  • Budget allocations and monitoring of spending are pressing issues. Our children and teachers are being kept from school with furlough days because we cannot afford to keep the schools open.
  • Helping the teachers transition into the new curriculum standards. Our teachers are overwhelmed by the new standards that are being rolled out and we need to find a way to help the teachers integrate these into the classroom in the times allotted.
  • Being able to keep the momentum within the educational system will take new and fresh ideas. I am prepared to work and collaborate with the other board members to aim for what is best for our school system in the immediate future.
  • HOW DO YOU THINK YOU CAN HELP VOTERS IN A WAY OTHERS IN THIS RACE CAN'T?

    • "I would bring a clear perspective and a new vision to the board - a prerequisite for such challenging times. We cannot afford to rely on how it was done 20 years ago or have a retired viewpoint to the system of today. With two young children within the school system now, I understand how the needs are different and I am ready to bring a modern up to date style of leadership to the board and for our children."

WHAT WOULD YOU HOPE TO BE REMEMBERED FOR ACCOMPLISHING AFTER SERVING IN THIS OFFICE?

    • "I want to be remembered for being a voice for the children and parents in my district. To implement the ideas they want for our schools. I also want the teachers to know that we understand their challenges and want to find ways to overcome those obstacles."
